Poor baby, being forced into doing stupid dog tricks. Though, being able to act as a spare end table does help to make up for the destruction.

Stupid dog tricks!?! Come on, this is SERIOUS TALENT. This is why she is a seal-dog. And yes, by the time we got to the beer bottle she was a bit over it, which is quite clear in her look, but, for the most part, she loves it. Nothing is better to her than a handful of treats followed by excited applause, let me tell you.

Kyle made me laugh just now because I was thinking the same thing. Seal is a very special dog. Be proud. Be very proud.

She is one of my favorite things about being alive and living my life. Proud I am, and is a bit of an understatement.

Oh I love this post.
So, I was finally able to get Gracie to perform this trick shortly before she died – it was one that her sibling (who left with other mom in the divorce) was able to do. Gracie could never do it because she was TOO EXCITED to sit still, especially with food that close. The trick is this:
We’d make her sit still and then put a dog treat on the tip of her nose and tell her to “stay.” We’d back up a bit, still commanding her to stay. Then we’d say “get it!” or something like that and she would flip the dog treat from her nose right into her mouth. We’d clap like mad and give her treats afterwards.
So finally when I was able to get Gracie to do this, well I almost cried because I was so proud lol. It meant she was growing up and getting calmer and listening better.
I actually took video of her doing this, not that long ago. I’ll have to download it off of the camera when I’m ready.
Anyway, you should be proud!

Oh wow, good for Gracie! I know that moment of watching your dog do something that has just been so hard for so long. The pride! The Seal was quick to balance things on her head but when it came to dropping the ball outside before coming inside, there were some serious stand offs, let me tell you. Sometimes I would give up and wedge a stick in her slobbery mouth and just fling the ball out. But then, just a few weeks ago we got back from the park and before I said anything she just dropped the ball on the front porch and looked up at me with a big ol’ smile. I think we were equally proud.
I’m so glad you have that video of Gracie. It makes my stomach hurt a little but it also makes me smile for you.

Good (taste) Dog! Lighthouse coffee beans?
A couple of years ago Sara brewed a Mocha porter using Lighthouse Coffee and Theo Chocolate nubs. She would approve of the Sierra Nevada too, one of the better macrobrews.

Oh my lawrd that beer sounds AMAZING! I have always wanted to learn to brew… Maybe a good goal for 2010. The coffee on the Seal’s head is the Kelani brand. I switch around, so long as it is shade grown and organic/fair trade of course. I’ll have to look into lighthouse- not sure I’ve had that brand?

Sara is a local brewmaster (by local, I mean our kitchen). We have 4 batches of beer bottled right now, 2 coconut porters (No! You’re Coconutty! Porter and Not so Coconutty Porter), a brown ale (I look great in green Brown Ale) and an IPA (Hopalotapus IPA 2009). Maybe during the meeting and greet we will have a beer tasting.

Oh wait! Lighthouse is Violet’s favorite! I have been there once or twice. It was delicious! Exceptional. Man, you have some good taste! I was looking at your restaurant favorites on your blog and I agree with all of them! Hopalotapus sounds dreamy! IPA is my favorite.

LOL…this is cute but I sure hope you gave her a sip of the beer after it was all done.

She was too full for beer after all of the treats I gave her… So, I did what I had to do and drank it all myself.

oh! y’all are the best! really, this made my day – twice now. it might continue to do so for a while. thank you and thank the seal!
she does look a bit put out about the beer – i hope it helps that she has my everlasting gratitude for being a good sport (and adorable and *talented*). or, if that is not sufficient, know that i would gladly lavish her with treats!
=D
