About 10 years ago I ran over a hive with a lawn mower and zooooom – up my shorts and to my bum, 5 bees went! (Shortly after this incident is when I discovered boxer briefs, by the way- do not mow without them!) But I didn’t realize that needing to take 6 Benadryl and still having my throat feel like it was closing, along with the pain and major hives all over my body wasn’t normal enough… I mean, I was stung 5 times!

I told this story to my allergist and he definitely found it strange. I guess when you are allergic like this you usually get one warning reaction (or we’d all die the first time we got stung, ate a peanut or what ever the allergy) and after that you just can’t know exactly how quick or severe the reaction will be.

How lucky you are to have such an intimate, interesting relationship with such an amazing creature! I was stung last summer because I was sweaty and freaking out about a bee that was very attracted to me, so attracted in fact that it landed on my neck and let me have it. A bee sting hurts worse than a tattoo, I swear.

How interesting also that you have never been stung before. (I’m assuming that, is it true?) The bees have been kind to you. Sometimes I think that our non-human friends know more than they let on.
